Bungalow

Approximate year Bungalow style was introduced in U.S. - 1910

The bungalow was influenced by many styles including Japanese tea houses, swiss chalets and log cabins. They were built in proliferation across the U.S during the early 1900's and can be found in many variations. They were an answer to a widespread need for simpler residences and were loosely described as cottage like dwellings. The bungalow lines are low and simple with wide projecting roofs. Their design and material suggest a kind of coziness. Common bungalow features seen in the Longmeadow example are a gently pitched overhanging roof, a large porch with tapered posts, and low, shed dormers.
