Approximate year Tudor style was introduced in U.S. - 1900
Tudor is an elegant and popular architectural style based on English cottages erected during the reign of Queen Elizabeth (1558 - 1603) and then revived in the late 1800's. By the 1920's there was a preponderance of Tudor mansions in this country, which were followed soon after by smaller Tudor houses based on the English stone Cotswold cottage. While the primary exterior characteristic is that of the half timbers, other common features were small leaded casement windows, massive ornate chimneys and Cotswold-like "flared" roofs (the latter visible on the far right of this house).
